Surface preparation
The surface must be cleaned of dust and dirt, and completely dried. Depending on the surface material, the time before applying paint and varnish materials may vary. For example, concrete must dry for at least 28 days, cement plasters – 14, mineral thin-layer decorative plasters – 7, polymer putties – 3. Remember that gypsum putties and plasters can shrink, as a result of which the paint and varnish coating will crack after drying. Paint should be applied to the wallpaper after the glue has completely dried, not earlier than after 2 days. Wallpaper and glue for them have different compositions, so the properties of the paint may also change. For example, highly absorbent wallpaper will increase paint consumption and, accordingly, the time it takes to form the finish coat. To strengthen the base surface, improve adhesion and reduce paint consumption, use a primer recommended by the manufacturer. When applying paint and varnish materials to complex composite or previously painted surfaces, we recommend doing a test painting.
Color selection and application features
Choose a color according to the paint manufacturer’s fan. For tinting AkzoNobel products (Dulux, Marshall, Pinotex, Hammerite), use Acomix colorants. Colorants from other manufacturers may not give the desired result. Color perception is especially strongly influenced by: • The type of paint and varnish material. When painting large areas, mix several cans in one container. It is necessary to paint in whole elements using the “corner to corner” technology. This will allow you to get a uniformly painted surface. Be sure to thoroughly mix the paint and varnish material before application for optimal viscosity and color homogeneity. When painting large rooms with a lot of light, it is better to use a spray gun. Paints of intense and bright shades from the red, yellow and orange range have limited hiding power. This is due to the fact that organic pigments are used in bright colors. For the first layer, mix a colorless base tinted in one of these colors with a white base of the same paint in a 1:1 ratio. For the next layer, you do not need to add a white base.
Formation of the coating
The room should be well ventilated. The surface layer of paint and varnish materials dries quickly enough, but it is not yet a fully formed coating. It usually takes from several days to several weeks for the film to fully form on the surface.
